Why I’m running again, and why now.

I’ve been debating this decision since January, and I’ve been waiting because I’ve needed the following things to be true:

  • I wanted to work as long as possible as your ward 11 councillor, not as a candidate;
  • I needed to know that I could thrive and stay optimistic in the kind of environment that rewards division and anger as motivation;
  • I needed to ensure any decision was made with my family in mind. We haven’t been without our share of challenges the last 18 months, including medical. And with big transition school years ahead (7 & 10!) I needed to know that we were all ready for the demands of working full time and campaigning simultaneously.

Since being elected in 2021 I have met countless amazing Calgarians and organizations who are giving back to our community through innovation, art, inclusion, sport, and community. I’m reminded that we are a city that is warm, welcoming, and forward thinking. This is the city I have grown up in, the one people are flocking to, and the city I want to help shape.

I’ve been asked by civic leaders, nonprofit leaders, the business community, and most importantly Ward 11 residents to run again. They desire someone who understands the issues and the complexities of partnerships and projects in a financial environment that demands both spending and restraint. They want to work with me because I understand the moment we are in, and I believe in our city and our people.

  • I understand what affordability truly means and how our decisions impact the most at risk.
  • I understand the value our civic institutions bring to our city and believe our investments bring us pride alongside economic advantages.
  • I understand the nuances of businesses in 2025 and that we need to support their ability to generate income and create jobs, but not at the expense of residents.
  • I understand that a city is the sum of its parts and that we’re greater together.

For the past four years, I have worked alongside community leaders, residents, business, and my counterparts from around this province to bring about meaningful change for Calgarians and for Ward 11. My record is strong, consistent, and compassionate.

I introduced free transit for children under 12. I would love to see this program expand, so that more families and youth can get to know our city and travel around independently. This requires partnership with school boards and the province.

Working alongside the library and my provincial peers I’m asking the provincial government to increase the per capita funding to match population plus inflation. They are a backbone of our city, providing incredible services for people from all walks of life.

I have consistently invested in the priorities Calgarian have identified through our citizen satisfaction surveys from housing to roads to public safety. All fire trucks are now staffed with four people. We’ve added record numbers of affordable housing units in the City including projects in Ward 11. Transit safety is up and we’ve also increased the frequency of service. And roads are getting paved again after years of budget cutbacks.

You have asked and I have listened.
  • We’ve added new pathways and sidewalks in Ward 11 while adding more snow clearing routes to the pathway system.
  • We’ve reduced speed limits on the roads in your communities at your request.
  • We’ve added safety measures to intersections.
  • Homes are getting built near transit stations.
  • There are improvements happening in dog parks.

With over 100,000 people in Ward 11, I know we haven’t agreed on everything.

I have been a champion for housing in all forms. I have said yes to both growth on the outer edges of our city while recognizing that the communities in Ward 11 need housing choice too.

I don’t want residents to worry about having a roof over their head or being worried about paying rent, or deciding between food and your utility bill, or having your adult children living at home at 30 or older.

Living in a city is living in community and that means that we experience both the joys and the hard times together. My goal has been to make decisions in such a way that the outcomes are positive outcomes for most and outweigh the negative impacts.

The success of a community is growth not stagnation. I am looking towards the future in building for those who haven’t even been born, for the jobs we’ve yet to uncover, and for the industries and businesses who have yet to emerge. I believe that we can do this together when we set our hearts and minds to prosperity.

Calgary has always been a city of leaders and trailblazers. I believe that the leadership of the city should reflect that spirit. I have made decisions, thinking about the long-term cost and benefits to the city.

I am your non-partisan candidate, no party politics, no populism, no chasing headlines, no sound bites. I do politics in full sentences, I dig into the issues with curiosity and a desire to understand. I’m willing to make the uncomfortable decisions, knowing that honesty and integrity is more important than popularity.

Ward 11 in the City of Calgary is one small corner of Treaty 7 land. As immediate neighbours of the Tsuut'ina nation we recognize all of Ward 11 resides on the traditional territories of the Tsuut'ina, the Blackfoot confederacy, the Ĩyãħé Nakoda nation. As neighbours we are stewards to the prosperous and just future for all Indigenous Canadians including the Metis, Inuit, displaced, and urban Indigenous who live across Calgary and live in Treaty 7 territory.
